Today, I tried product improvement. This is when you take an invention and try to advance it technologically. My group chose to modify a car. First, we brainstormed using the SCAMMPERR brainstorming techniques. The five parts of the car we chose to modify were the car wheel, airbag, engine, car material, and car aerodynamics. The wheel makes it easier to hold while still being safe. The airbag is padded with many light feathers to prevent airbag injuries. The engine runs on carbon dioxide and exports oxygen. The material of the car is an extremely durable and light metal. The aerodynamics of the car are improved. The material and aerodynamics make the car go much faster and lets it run in neutral for a longer time and at a higher speed. To show all of my work, I made an entry in my engineering notebook, as if I were going to really invent it. Not only was improving the car fun, it was a great learning experience.
The designs took a while since they were very specific and detailed.
The new car wheel adds safety and efficient accessible button features. The handle makes it easier for the driver to hold it at 9 and 3, which, new studies show, is safer than holding it at 10 and 2. The airbag provides a softer deploy so that airbag injuries are less common. The engine uses a laser that converts carbon dioxide into oxygen and carbon. The oxygen is exerted out while the carbon powers the battery. The energy exerted from the chemical change powers the car. This is extremely helpful for the environment. Finally, the car's aerodynamic design. This design makes the car able to go farther distances while in neutral. These designs will ultimately provide a safe, cost efficient, and environmentally friendly car that could be seen in the near future.
