Today, I tried concept sketching. At first, it was harder than I expected. I had trouble making the shapes and angles right. As I kept drawing, it became easier. The shading was the easiest, and writing small letters and labels was the hardest. In the end, concept sketching really opened my mind about engineering. It made me realize how just being good at science isn't enough. Engineering requires skills from all subjects to be successful. From the art necessary to make good concept sketches to the writing skills needed to write a good lab analysis, engineering is really more than the word.
Out of all of the sketches I made, I thought the corkscrew sketch turned out the best. I really like the handle's shading, especially how you can see a little glare on it. For the flower pot,
I really tried to focus on the shading where the ridge of the top of the pot meets the cylinder-like shape. For the Automoblox vehicle sketch,
I really tried to make everything very exact - the spokes on each wheel, the different sizes of each small shape, and the letters on the side of the car. All of the small details added together really made this one turn out great!
