Maker Faire Topic Interests

Today, our class is starting to talk about 20% time and our passion projects. 20% time is when 20% of the amount of class is taken for people to do whatever STEM-related activity they choose. We are using our time to create a passion project, a project based on our interests, that will be presented at the upcoming Maker Faire. I am unsure on what I want to make, but I do have a few ideas. Some subjects that I am interested in include chemistry, astronomy, and medicine.
Here is a list of project ideas for this year:
  • Prosthetic arm
  • Prosthetic knee
  • Constellation finder
  • Model satellite
  • Model rocket
Out of all my ideas, I think I am leaning towards a prosthetic leg. I found many examples online, and many of the metal parts can very easily be replaced by pvc pipes. This project will be interesting and very educational for me.

Here is an example of many prosthetic legs that can be made. I want to try and create model C, which incorporates knee movement. I am cannot wait to begin!

Materials:
  • Thin PVC pipe
  • Old shoe
  • Wood planks and wood sphere
  • Paper mache materials
    • newspaper
    • glue
    • water
  • Axles
  • Nails
  • Wood Cutter
